2x2 is an animation channel aimed at young audiences aged 11 to 34 years. Around 4 million Russians, who live in cities with a population over 100,000 residents, watch the television channel every day. 2x2 broadcasts across eight federal districts and its signal reaches 76% of the country's population.
The 2x2 channel was launched as Russia's first animation youth channel after its rebranding in 2007. In 2008, an online vote of the Russian Entertainment Awards recognized 2x2 as the country's best entertainment channel.
2x2 has been adding entertainment programs from leading foreign producers to its content library since 2009 and in 2012 the channel supplemented this lineup with its original programming.
The channel operates in a 24-hour format and broadcasts animation masterpieces from Russia, USA, England, France, Italy, Japan and Czech Republic, as well as the highest rated programs made by its own production crews.
As part of its foreign lineup, 2x2 offers such popular animated series as The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, South Park and others. The channel was also the first in Russia to produce and broadcast original animation series for adults Atomny Les (Atomic Forest), Valera and Pyhchevo as well as the comedy shows Reutov TV, Tachki Rybakina (Rybakin's Autos), and Hobosty. The channel's other original shows include Level Up, Smotryashyi (Onlooker), Kit Stupid Show, Bessmertnoe Kino (Immortal Film) and Bogatstvo Kuritsy (The Hen's Riches). The shows on 2x2 offer a sarcastic and uncompromising look at modern pop culture.
In addition to animated series, the channel broadcasts international comedy hits, including Friends, Californication, Scrubs and House of Lies. In spring 2015 the channel launched the segment Neprikrityi Pokaz (Uncovered Show), which explores the laureates of famous film festivals in France, Italy, Norway, Warsaw and North America.
Gazprom-Media acquired 2x2 in 2014 and the channel is now a part of the holding's Entertainment TV Group.
