Crystal Palace Cinema is one the most popular and most visited multiplex cinemas in Saint-Petersburg.
Crystal Palace is one of the first cinemas in the city that opened as early as the times of “mute” films. Later it became the first sound cinema theatre in the country. The building was constructed in 1841-1878 and is listed as site of historic and cultural value.
In the Soviet times the cinema was called Znaniye. It specialised on screening documentaries and popular science films, while the repeat screening hall showing the best of films released in the recent years.
In late October 1997 the capital refurbishment was completed, and the renovated Crystal Palace opened for patrons again.
Crystal Palace became the first cinema in the city to use hi-fi acoustic and projection equipment. The multiplex has four screens: Red, Blue, Green and Violet; there is also a bar and a café. The total seating capacity of the cinema – 463 seats. All the screens are equipped with Dolby sound systems.
