1-2-3 Production’s co-produced project, Anna K, to be Netflix’s first original Russian project

On May 26, Netflix announced the upcoming release of its first original Russian drama series, Anna K - a modern adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel Anna Karenina.

The events of the world-famous novel unfold in modern Russia where the socialite Anna Karenina, the wife of the future St. Petersburg governor, starts a fateful romance with Vronsky, the heir to an aluminum empire. Their romance quickly spirals out of control, threatening the delicate balance of family ties and social position. The action takes place between cosmopolitan Moscow, historic St. Petersburg and the harsh reality of the Russian countryside. The series touches on the themes of passion and loyalty, and ultimately proves the irrefutable truth - love can lead to freedom as well as death, regardless of how wealthy the individuals are.

Svetlana Khodchenkova (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) will play the lead role. The project will have several directors: Valeriy Fedorovich, Evgeny Nikishov, Natasha Merkulova, Alexey Chupov and Roman Kantor.

Valeriy Fedorovich, Evgeny Nikishov (1-2-3 Production), Sergey Kornikhin (Drug Druga / Friend of a Friend, Plan K), Roman Kantor (Plan K) will produce the series
