New Year's Mayhem 2) became the highest-grossing film in cinemas across Russia and the CIS on the December 12-15 weekend. The comedy has collected 372 million rubles in cinemas, according to the Kinobusiness portal. Novogodniy Bespredel 2 overtook Jake Kasdan’s adventure comedy Jumanji. The Next Level (366.7 million rubles), which featured Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and other Hollywood stars.

In its first weekend in cinemas, the comedy sequel surpassed the earnings of the original Novogodniy Bespredel and became the most successful Russian film to be released in cinemas in 2019. The film was made by PREMIER Studios’ production unit, together with TNT channel and Legio Felix production association. Central Partnership is overseeing the film’s distribution.

The film’s producers are Gazprom-Media’s top managers, Valery Fyodorovich and Evgeny Nikishov. Ilya Kulikov is the scriptwriter, director and producer. He was also the author and director of the original movie and TV series of the same name, and is well-known for his other projects, Chernobyl. Zona Otchuzhdeniya (Chernobyl. Exclusion Zone) and Zakon Kamennyh Djunglei (The Law of the Stone Jungle), among others. Sergey Burunov played the main role in the new film.
