NTV company announced that the international premiere of the most anticipated series of this fall, Hozhdenie po Mukam (The Road to Calvary), timed to the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution, will be held in Cannes as part of the international exhibition MIPCOM. The project will be presented at the exhibition by the lead actresses of the film Yuliya Snigir and Anna Chipovskaya.
Hozhdenie po Mukam is a film adaptation of the classic work by Alexei Tolstoy. The plot of the series unfolds in St. Petersburg in 1914. The city lives “as if waiting for a fateful and terrible day.” In the center of the story - the lives of two Bulavin sisters, Katya (Yuliya Snigir) and Dasha (Anna Chipovskaya). Both young women are in love with a decadent poet, Alexei Bessonov (Anton Shagin), who changes their world view and familiar way of life. The First World War brings new meaning and emotions into the carefree existence of the heroines. When the war is coming to an end, the revolution breaks out in Russia and the Civil War starts, both of which completely change the lives of the sisters, their families and the whole country. Hozhdenie po Mukam becomes for them not a metaphor, but real life.

The screen adaptation of the great novel by Alexei Tolstoy demanded great attention to history in order to recreate a whole epoch over the span of 12 episodes. This series, undoubtedly, is a flagship project about our country, culture and the strength of people’s will. Thus, it is very pleasant that this specific series will be shown on the first day of the Cannes market for international channels, production companies and distributors with the support of our international partner Dori Media,” said Timur Weinstein, general producer of NTV channel.
The script of the series was written by Elena Raiskaya and the project was shot by the famous Russian director Konstantin Khudyakov. The filming of the series took place in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Pyatigorsk, Riga and Arkhangelsk. The series was created with the support of Russia’s Ministry of Culture.
