Gazprom-Media Holding and Don State Technical University to launch joint radio broadcasting and educational projects in new media

Gazprom-Media Holding and the Don State Technical University (DSTU) have begun their cooperation in the science, education and innovation spheres and are launching their joint radio station Like FM. The corresponding agreement was signed on December 15 at DSTU.

According to the agreement, DSTU and Gazprom-Media Holding will work to attract experts from specific fields into their projects, and conduct joint research studies and events about artificial intelligence, machine learning and media consumption. There are plans to create joint multimedia projects as well as projects in the areas of television and radio broadcasting. The first such project will be the creation of a partner radio station Like FM. The radio station Like FM, which is part of GPM Radio, will begin broadcasting in 2022 at the 105.1 FM frequency.

“We have been working on preparing the agreement since April of this year and have already begun our cooperation with DSTU. The university’s students are working in our company. In September the representatives of our animation studio took part in the Magika festival. Our cooperation with DSTU will continue to expand and its outcomes will be important and valuable not only for the Holding and DSTU, but also for the industry as a whole.”

“We will open an innovative radio station for young people using the Don State Technical University and Gazprom-Media Radio’s branch in Rostov-on-Don as a base,” said Yuri Kostin, general manager of GPM Radio at a round table “Media development and digital education in a regional university: cooperation between business and education”. “Avtoradio, Humor FM and Radio ENERGY are already broadcasting at the Rostov branch, but in line with the digital transformation trend that our Holding is pursuing nowadays, it is necessary to have strong representation in the digital sphere. These requirements are met by the country’s most technologically advanced radio, Like FM. A joint project with a university that is respected around the world is a new phase in media development. It is not only that a new creative team will be formed in the city to improve the news and musical offerings. Radio is a serious science and the integration into the digital sphere is already part of our audio consumption. DSTU will help the industry to educate personnel in line with the new reality. The phrase “team is everything” is now more relevant than ever because the level of education around the world is declining and alongside that the culture norms, including those of media culture, are also declining. Modern media needs workers who are capable of rebuilding society. No government control measures will help here. The control must be from within, internal censorship, that is - high-quality education.”

Gazprom-Media Holding’s assets will also be used to organise an internship for students and educational events for DSTU professors, who are involved in joint projects. Moreover, the partners are announcing the creation of educational platforms where the university’s students will be able to master the skills needed to create contemporary animation, work successfully in radio and television broadcasting, and create and develop Internet projects.

The interaction between the parties will be aimed at the development of high-tech innovative products and the joint development of scientific, technical and personnel potential.

The round table “Media development and digital education in a regional university: cooperation between business and education” was also held as part of the event. Speaking about the importance of training young workers and the need to grow professional skills in the region, Yulia Golubeva noted that Gazprom-Media Holding has a stake in all segments in the media industry and is constantly searching for new areas and ideas to expand the business as well as new tools for carrying out existing projects.

“We are extremely interested in attracting young professionals and creators who already have hands-on skills. By developing our cooperation, we will continue to find more and more points of interaction, strengthening and adding to these processes and mutual expertise.”
