Moscow, Russian Federation – TNT сhannel, a part of Gazprom-media, and Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation (JSBC), one of the leading media corporations in China, have agreed on the sale of the format of Interns series. The deal will make the first ever sale of the original Russian series to be adapted in China.
Based on the acquired format JSBC is planning to adapt 13 seasons of the series (260 episodes) for the Chinese Internet audience. JSBC obtained the rights for international VOD-distribution of the created series.
"This agreement is a strategic step in expanding international distribution of our original formats. Our series formats are being adapted in the US, Lithuania, and now in China. We consider this a success for TNT and for Russian TV production confirming that out products are becoming competitive on the global market ", commented head of Gazprom-media Entertainment TV division Arthur Janibekyan.
Interns, the series about the everyday life of young doctors, was released on TNT in April 2010 and became one of the highest-rated shows in its history. The show has been on the air since 2010 with peak audience reaching 26.9% of Russians aged 14-44 years .
The 13-season show overall TV audience reached more than 50 million viewers and had over 390 million views over the Internet.
Interns was earlier adapted by the Lithuanian television station tv3. 150 episodes of the series titled Rezidentai have been on the air since 2014.
In 2015, American television channel FOX began shooting the adaptation of Through My Eyes series . The original 12-episode TV series that came out on TNT in 2013 were filmed with subjective camera, each series tells the story through the eyes of different characters.
