TNT-PREMIER Studios, TV-3 channel and the film company Central Partnership have announced that they began production of the sci-fi film Metro 2033, which is based on the world-famous literary universe created by Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky in a fiction novel of the same name. The announcement was made on August 23 in a special live broadcast on TV-3’s official page on VKontakte social network. The film will be released in Russian cinemas on January 1, 2022.

The universe of the post-apocalyptic novel Metro 2033 encompasses the original trilogy by Dmitry Glukhovsky: Metro 2033, Metro 2034 and Metro 2035, as well as more than 100 novels written by fans around the world and several games for PC, Xbox and PlayStation, which have become global hits. The novel Metro 2033, which is the foundation of the following works, was translated into 40 languages. More than 5 million copies of the book series have been sold.
