Box office receipts of the first-ever feature movie in the world to have been shot in space have exceeded 2 billion rubles. According to the Unified Federal Automated Information System for Information on Film Screenings in Cinema Halls (UAIS), since the release of The Challenge on April 20, the movie has been viewed by more than 6.2 million people in Russia. The space drama has become the highest-grossing Russian movie among those launched outside the New Year holiday. The movie is distributed by Central Partnership film company.
Challenge is the first-ever feature movie shot on board the International Space Station 400 kilometers away from the Earth. According to the plot, a surgeon must prepare for a space flight within a month in order to save the life of an astronaut. During the shooting, the actress spent 12 days at the International Space Station and became the first-ever actress who flew into space.
The movie was released in 20 countries, including Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Northern Macedonia, Egypt, Iraq, Jordania, and Kuwait.
The Challenge is a joint project of the First Channel, Roscosmos State Corporation, Glavcosmos, Yellow, Black and White studio, and START online cinema, with the support of the Cinema Fund, in partnership with Tinkoff Bank and MegaFon.
