The new urban planning initiative was presented at a meeting of an interdepartmental council that is overseeing the implementation of the cooperation agreement between St. Petersburg and Gazprom.
There is a proposal to build a new skyscraper, Lakhta Center 2, to further develop the public and business neighbourhood that is successfully coming together around the existing Lakhta Center on the Gulf of Finland. The tower would be 703 metres high, which would make it the second tallest building in the world and the absolute record holder in terms of the height of its observation deck (590m) and top operational floor.
The project would be carried out based on a project financing model, outside of Gazprom’s investment program, by a special purpose company that is not affiliated with Gazprom.
